Balance of Power - Mindscape - 1985

This game was copied directly off of original diskettes.
Unforunately, the game is a little buggy (actually windows is) and doesn't
like to run on very much hardware. With a few hours of convincing, here it is.

description of various patches applied:

1) setup.exe was tweaked to allow installs directly from the C: drive
Just press enter through the disk changes. Because you'll want to setup the
game using setup.exe to change keyboard/mouse/video options, you need the
whole series of disks, but since this was supplied to you via .zip file
(wink wink) there needed to be a harddrive based solution.

2) kernel.exe was tweaked to accept any version of DOS. It looks like it
wants version 2.x through 3.x, anything higher or lower prints out the
"Incorrect DOS version" message, except there is a bug in the message code
where it tries to print out random memory instead of a message. Once the
DOS print routine finds a "$" in memory, it continues on just fine, but not
until you see a lot of garbage on the screen and various beeps. It now thinks
you're running on DOS 3.x no matter what version you're really running.

3) bop.exe was cracked. I used nevlock to do the actual dirty work.

The original versions of those 3 files are renamed to *.ex_ respectively.

The game is still pretty sensitive to hardware setups. My 286 and 386 worked
in CGA b/w mode, but only the 286 worked in EGA color. My 486 didn't work
at all.

good luck,
