House plants: just about everyone has them. Unlike house pets, they
generally don't make messes on the carpet or run off and get lost. They just
sit around politely, enhancing the decor of your rooms.

However, keeping plants isn't entirely effort-free. They need to be watered
and fed on a regular schedule, and other particular things might need to be
noted depending on the plant's species. If you don't water a plant often
enough, it may wilt and die; but watering it too often can be bad for it too.

This program is designed to take the confusion out of managing your house
plants. You can make entries for each plant in your house with the particulars
of its feeding and watering schedule, and any other comments that need noting,
and House Plant Journal will remind you daily of what needs to be done with your
plants.

Use the Add Entries menu item to put information on each plant into the
program. When you're done making entries, save your data into a file by using
the Save menu item or by answering yes to the request to save when you quit.
You can have more than one file (e.g., if several family members have their own
plants which they keep separately), so you must give each set of data a name
(see your DOS manual for information on what a legal filename is; a series of up
to eight alphanumeric characters, like JOHN or PLANTS2, is fine).

In the future, you can bring up the file by using the Load command with the
same filename. Then, use the Check Today item to see which plants need feeding
or watering now, and press U (Update) after each when you've completed the task
of the day. (Note: your system date must be set correctly, either by entering it
on bootup, through a realtime clock, or by typing the DATE command from DOS.)
After you do an update, or make any other changes to the data, you'll be asked
if you want to save it when you quit. Saying yes preserves the changes, while
saying no "undoes" them.

Full instructions are included within the program; just move the menu
highlight block down to "Read Instructions" to see details on how to use House
Plant Journal.

To run this program outside the BIG BLUE DISK menu, type: ^1PASRUN HPJ^0.
(NOTE: If you find the program's sound effects annoying, use ^1PASRUN HPJ S^0 to
run in silent mode. Running BIG BLUE DISK with ^1GO S^0 will also pass this
parameter on to House Plant Journal.)
