^C^1DUNGEON OF DEATH

Greetings, adventurers! Many treasures await you in Martin Richardson's
graphic role playing game, DUNGEON OF DEATH. But in addition to the diamonds,
emeralds, and magic rings you will find, a formidable assortment of goblins,
ghosts, and other fiends awaits as well. Survival depends on your ability as a
warrior -- and how well you pick your battles. A little luck doesn't hurt,
either.

^CThe Game

Graphic role playing games like DUNGEON OF DEATH combine elements of both
arcade-style games and text adventures. Like an arcader, the game's playing
screen displays the walls of the maze-like dungeon, the treasures, and your
character. As in text adventures, printed messages describe the world of the
adventure; typed commands move you through the dungeon.

As you move, monsters attack without warning, forcing you to choose between
fighting or running away. How well you pick your battles is the key to the
game.

Before the game begins, you endow your character with "dexterity" and
"strength" points. A character with a great deal of dexterity will be a very
powerful warrior, able to inflict much harm to the beasties found in the maze.
A character with a lot of strength points will be resilient, able to endure
attacks.

There is a trade-off involved, however. "Strong" characters aren't very
formidable; characters with a lot of dexterity are easily killed. Every time a
monster attacks, it subtracts strength points from the character. When strength
points reach zero, the warrior is off to Valhalla.

But while the better part of valor may be discretion, DUNGEON OF DEATH
doesn't reward wimps -- each vanquished monster adds to the character's
"experience points." As experience points accumulate, the character becomes
more formidable and resilient. Experienced warriors are more likely to escape
the DUNGEON OF DEATH in one piece.

Healing spells, crystal balls, and magic wands all add to the allure of
DUNGEON OF DEATH. To learn more the about the treasures -- and dangers -- found
in the game, select the game's "Instructions" option before playing.
