     2> PICS Forum on CIS

There's a group of dedicated programmers and artists on CompuServe
trying to do something entirely new: They're building the world's
     largest online art gallery.

Larry Wood started the PICS (Picture Support) forum when, as an online
travel agent, he found out just how eager people are to download
graphics of exotic people and places.

Now the forum boasts a library of over 4700 graphics and animated
demonstration programs, and claims to be one of the busiest forums on
     CompuServe.

The majority of graphics in PICS are in CompuServe's Graphics
Interchange Format (GIF). With GIF, graphics created on any computer,
(Commodore 64, Atari, Amiga, IBM CGA/EGA/VGA/Targa, Apple II, Mac II,
to name a few) can be viewed on any other computer. Or converted for
use in desktop publishing or a desktop presentation.

Several public domain and shareware programs are available for
viewing GIF graphics, and for converting graphics between GIF and
other popular graphics formats, including PCX, PIC, Halo CUT, as
well as formats for the Macintosh and other computers.
