                 LINENS

You see displays of sheets and towels.
"Not exciting gifts for dad," you think.

As you are leaving, a voice says, "Do
not try to flee. I am Robo-Guard Model
H-1, the fastest robot ever made." You
probably cannot run faster than H-1. You
wonder how to slow down the quick robot.

                 LINENS

You try to run, but the robot is too
fast. It scoops you up and rolls away at
60 miles an hour. You hang on tightly.
You wonder what would happen if the
robot hit something slippery on the
floor. If only you had something to put
in its path! But it's too late now.
Model H-1 dumps you outside.

                 LINENS

You quickly take the marbles out of your
knapsack and toss them on the floor. The
speeding robot hits the marbles and
slides into a display. Hundreds of
pillows and bedspreads land on top of
the robot with a POOF! You hear a faint
whir from under the pile, but the robot
cannot get out. You are safe!

               HOUSEWARES

You feel discouraged as you look around.
Your father already has dishes and a
toaster. Besides, you can't afford those
things with only five dollars.

Then you see the Convenient Shopping
Service Computer on the counter. The
sign says, "I have a gift suggestion for
everyone on your list!"

                HARDWARE

You see a workbench that your father
would like, but it costs too much. You
find a screwdriver that you can afford,
but that seems boring.

You see a big magnet lying on the
counter. Something like that might come
in handy.

                 FLOWERS

The air here is damp. You smell roses
and carnations. Bunches of blossoms are
in buckets in a big glass refrigerator.
Potted plants stand on tables nearby.

An absent-minded clerk has left a note
on the cash register. It says, "Today's
computer password is EYE BELT."

                  CANDY

You smell chocolate, mints and nuts.
"Perfect!" you think. "I can get Dad a
box of candy." But the candy is locked
up inside the glass counter.

Suddenly, you hear a low growl. A robot
guard dog is coming toward you. It has
sharp, shiny metal teeth! You look for
something it can chew on besides you!
*21.1
                  CANDY

The robot dog races straight for you. It
nips at your heels, forcing you to run
out of the room, down some stairs, and
out a back door.

Usually, you are pretty good with dogs.
Maybe you should have tried playing
fetch with him or something.
*21.2
                  CANDY

You throw the shoe. The robot dog does
not waste a second. With a little yip,
it chases the shoe, catches it in
mid-air, and carries the shoe off to a
cozy spot for a nice chew. You
congratulate yourself on your way with
animals.

                COSMETICS

Your nose twitches. This was exactly the
spot where the lady in pink sprayed you
with perfume! You walk by the [AROMA]
counter.

the counter.

                 JEWELRY

Even in the dim light, the gold and
diamonds in the display cases sparkle.
You cannot afford anything here, unless
they make aluminum cuff links.

Suddenly a robot appears. "Unauthorized
intruder possibly with coins in pocket,
sensed by my metal detector!" it buzzes.
*23.1
                 JEWELRY

You hear a loud buzz as the robot turns
on a powerful magnet. It pulls your
coins and all the metal parts of your
clothes towards it. Of course, you come
along, too. The robot carries you
outside and turns off its magnet. You
land in a heap on the ground. You wish
you had some other metal to stop that
Robot.
*23.2
                 JEWELRY

You quickly take the magnet out of your
knapsack and throw it. The magnet sticks
to the robot's chest with a loud CLANG!
The robot turns around and around in
confusion. "Metal detected! Metal not
detected!" it buzzes. It does not see
you leave the Jewelry Department.

            MAJOR APPLIANCES

You enter a room full of stoves, washers
dryers, and microwave ovens. There is
nothing that you can afford.

As you start to leave, you see a robot
coming your way. It is turning its head
this way and that, sniffing. "Odor of
an unauthorized intruder detected," it
bleeps. "I will eject the intruder."
*24.1
            MAJOR APPLIANCES

You hide behind a dishwasher, but the
sniffing robot finds you. Holding its
own nose with a clothespin, it picks you
up and deposits you outside the store's
back door. "That thing must have a
pretty sensitive nose," you think. "I
wish I had something that could confuse
its sense of smell!"
*24.2
            MAJOR APPLIANCES

As the robot gets closer, you bring out
the bottle of [AROMA] perfume. With a
FOOOSH, you spray a cloud of it at the
robot. The robot coughs. "Unauthorized
stench!" it croaks. "Cannot detect other
odors. Nose emergency!" It staggers
away, probably to the robot repair
shop.
*24.3
            MAJOR APPLIANCES

You notice a notepad next to the
Appliance Department telephone. Someone
has written, "Today's computer password
is SPUD HEAD."

                FURNITURE

You make your way past the couches, beds
and tables to try out the reclining
chairs.
