^C^1CUCKOO'S NEST

^CDonald M. Danvers

For as long as you can remember, people have talked about the once-stately
Victorian mansion on the edge of town. The secretive comings and goings of the
eccentric Uppingham family fueled town gossip for over a century.

Even now that the last Uppingham has died, the rumors continue. Supposedly,
at least seven fabulous jewels are hidden somewhere in the decaying mansion. An
adventurer with quick wits and steel nerves might explore the hidden passageways
and come back with a fortune.

-- Or not come back at all: another rumor has it that the Uppingham mansion
is now home to a group of drunken revelers who object quite strongly to any
invasion of their privacy.

Of course, you've never been one to put much stock in hearsay. After all,
you think, one legend has it that koala bears roam the Uppingham estate. You'll
wait for nightfall and explore the mansion yourself....

^CA Text Adventure Primer

Text adventures like CUCKOO work by describing the player's surroundings.
Players explore the world of the adventure and interact with the objects found
there by typing in short commands. For example, if the game states that a door
appears in front of a character, the player could enter "OPEN DOOR" to reveal
what is behind it.

You move about world of CUCKOO by typing in directions: east, west, north,
south, up, and down. (Abbreviations may be used for directions.) Other
important commands are I for inventory, which tells you what you are carrying,
and Q, which returns you to BIG BLUE DISK.

Finally, as with most text adventures, creating a map of your explorations is
highly recommended.
